DJ Krush

"DJ Krush"

Along with DJ Shadow, DJ Krush's music was a huge inspiration to me and my art from early on. This illustration is in the beginning stage, I have a lot more to finish up on this one. Check back soon.

Proof

"MC Spank Rock"

Here's a rough comp of what direction I'm heading in. I may just do this all digital instead of using a silkscreen...we'll see. I'm going to try to get in a couple more sketches/comps before I start on the final...

Beginning Reformulation

"MC Spank Rock"

So this is the beginning charcoal piece for a new series (I'm basically restarting, going through my list of artist from the beginning). The next 'layer' to this image will be done with pen+ink in a "wild-style" type execution. After the two layers are combined digitally, I will print everything out on bond-paper in order to burn my silkscreen. I will repeat the same process as the one I used in my American Worker series. I will post the two layers soon. The silkscreen/painting will take about a week to a week and a half to complete. Check back soon.

New Illustration + Self-Skeptic

"Amanda Blank"

My latest installment to my musician series. Unfortunately I've taken a lot of criticism from friends regarding these paintings, they feel that I am not using my 'voice' to the best of my ability. I also had the pleasure of receiving a critique from Nathan Fox concerning these illustrations. Both my friends and Nathan have expressed to me what I've known all along but was to afraid to do: follow my intuition (do work that pleases me). Thus, I will most likely be changing my focus back to line+paint+silkscreen within the next week. I will, however, keep the same theme...but, there is something about the almighty black-line (whether inked, drawn, or painted) I cannot deny. I would like to explore my greatest influences: comics, music, graffiti, after-school drawing sessions with friends, the human body, and fine art. I have little time to kill, but I am sure of what I have to do now. My hope is that if I roll all of my influences together and combine them with my line, it just may convince me of the powerful voice I have kept under lock & key for some years now. Check back soon.

Comics

"Kids"

"Phuture Drugs"

Thought I would post some of my comics from my graphic novel course--just for fun. The top comic ("Kids") is trying to capture the essence of a movie using no words. The bottom comic was made using photo reference from a good friend and classmate (unfortunately no words put in), and explains how the future of drugs will come from the internet ("wireless drugs"). I will continue to post my comics as the course proceeds.

NEW ILLUSTRATIONS

"MC Spank Rock"

"Santigold"

Wow. It's been too long. I've changed course a little and started doing illustrations of new (or fairly new) musicians. The paintings here are just at the beginning stages of their journey--in other words--this is just the acrylic 'rough' layer. I will be applying oil over top at a later date. Check back soon.
